Capital.com fees and spreads

Capital.com's fee structure is unusual in what it does not charge. Working through it in the order the money leaves your account.

These are stated in the entities' own terms and conditions, not in marketing copy:

• Account opening: no fee.
• Account closing: no fee.
• Deposits: no fee charged by Capital.com.
• Withdrawals: no fee charged by Capital.com.
• Inactivity: "The Company does not charge any fee in relation to Inactive Accounts." This wording appears in both the Capital Com Group and Capital Com SV terms.
• CFD commission: none. Capital.com is spread-only on CFDs.

Spreads

From Capital.com's own EU pricing page: EUR/USD from 0.6 pips, gold from 0.30 points, UK 100 from 1 point, Apple from 0.13 points, Bitcoin from 50 points. Spreads are variable and widen outside liquid hours.

Overnight financing

• Most assets: an overnight basis adjustment plus a daily fee of 0.01111%.
• Crypto long: 0.06164% of nominal position value per day, which Capital.com states as 22.5% a year.
• Crypto short: 0.0137% a day, 5% a year.

The crypto long figure is the one to take seriously. A leveraged long crypto CFD held for a year costs roughly a fifth of the position in financing before the market does anything. This product is priced for days, not months.

Currency conversion

Two different rates for two different products:

• CFDs, retail clients: 0.7% of the spot forex rate, applied as an all-in rate 0.7% less favourable than spot.
• Share dealing: 0.4% of the spot forex rate.

This applies whenever the instrument is denominated in a currency other than your account currency. On a euro account trading US shares, it applies on the way in and on the way out. It is the main cost most reviews of this broker leave out.

Guaranteed stop loss

Charged as a premium: GSLO premium multiplied by the position open price multiplied by quantity. Capital.com gives 0.03% as an example premium. It is only charged if the guaranteed stop is triggered on some products, so check the instrument terms.

Minimum deposit

€20, or the equivalent in your account currency, for every payment method except wire transfer, which requires €50.

The bottom line

For an EU trader holding positions over days, the total cost of ownership here is among the lowest of any regulated CFD broker: the spread, plus 0.01111% a night, plus 0.7% if you convert. For a dormant account it is zero, which is worth setting against AvaTrade's $50 every three months plus $100 at twelve.
