IG licence numbers
IG's UK licence numbers are FCA 195355 for IG Markets Limited and FCA 114059 for IG Index Limited. Two companies, two numbers, and which one you deal with depends on whether you are spread betting or trading CFDs. The group runs twelve companies in total, including a licensed Swiss bank, and the register carries one detail about IG's South African arm that its marketing does not.

Two UK numbers, and why it matters which one you have
IG splits its UK business across two authorised companies. IG Markets Limited (195355) is the CFD firm. IG Index Limited (114059) is the spread betting and share dealing firm. Both hold and control client money and both bring the FSCS at £85,000.
The practical consequence is about the compensation limit rather than the licence. FSCS protection is per eligible person, per firm. Two separate authorised firms means two separate £85,000 ceilings, so a client with a spread betting account and a CFD account is not sharing one limit across both. That is an unusual structural advantage and IG does not market it.
What the register shows about South Africa
IG publishes FSCA FSP 41393 and states that it holds an OTC Derivative Provider authorisation. Both check out, and the ODP part is the one that counts, because an FSP licence alone covers advice and intermediary services while issuing CFDs as principal requires the ODP.
Reading the FSCA's OTC Derivative Providers register on 24 September 2026 turns up two IG entries rather than one:
- IG MARKETS SOUTH AFRICA LIMITED (South African Branch): Approved. Local, non-bank, at The Marc, Tower 2, 9th Floor, 129 Rivonia, Sandton.
- IG MARKETS LIMITED: Application Withdrawn. Foreign, non-bank, at Cannon Bridge House, 25 Dowgate Hill, London EC4R 2YA.
So the UK company applied for its own South African ODP authorisation and withdrew the application, and the South African branch holds one instead. Nothing here is wrong. It is a reminder that a group name on a register is not the same as the specific entity that would face you, and that the register records the applications that did not complete as well as the ones that did.
Forty previous names on the UK licence
The FCA entry for IG Markets Limited carries forty previous trading names, and almost all of them are other firms' CFD brands. IG has historically run white-label platforms for third parties on its own authorisation, which is legal, disclosed and visible only if you open the trading names table on the register.
It is worth knowing because a broker you met under a different name may have been IG underneath, and because the contrast is stark: Saxo carries one previous name and Interactive Brokers carries one, both cosmetic.

Frequently asked questions
What is IG's FCA number?
IG has two. IG Markets Limited is FCA 195355 and handles CFDs. IG Index Limited is FCA 114059 and handles spread betting and share dealing. Both are authorised, both hold and control client money, and both bring FSCS cover at £85,000 per eligible person per firm.
Is IG a bank?
In Switzerland, yes. IG Bank S.A. is licensed by FINMA as a bank and securities dealer and sits on the esisuisse member list, which brings deposit protection to CHF 100,000 per client. Elsewhere IG is a broker rather than a bank, and the UK entities are investment firms under the FCA rather than banks under the PRA.
Is IG regulated in South Africa?
Yes. IG Markets South Africa Limited holds FSCA FSP 41393 and appears on the FSCA's OTC Derivative Providers register with status Approved as at 24 September 2026, which is the authorisation needed to issue CFDs as principal. The same register shows a separate entry for IG Markets Limited, the UK company, with status Application Withdrawn.
