AvaTrade fees and spreads

AvaTrade's published fees are mostly the ones you pay for not trading. The ones you pay for trading are not published at all.

The dormancy charges

Both figures are from AvaTrade's own help centre.

Fee Amount Trigger
Inactivity fee $50 / €50 / £50 After three consecutive months of non-use, and every three-month period after that
Administration fee $100 / €100 / £100 After twelve consecutive months of non-use

They stack, and the inactivity fee recurs. Working it through on AvaTrade's own numbers, an account left untouched for twelve months is charged $50 at three months, $50 at six, $50 at nine, $50 at twelve, then $100 administration: $300 in the first dormant year. The minimum deposit is $100.

Three months of not trading is an ordinary thing. If you are the kind of trader who goes quiet between setups, this is the single most expensive feature of the account and it is worth pricing before you fund it.

What is not published

  • Spreads. AvaTrade states that spreads are incorporated into its quoted rates and directs you to log in to see them per instrument. There is no public spread table on avatrade.com. Figures circulating on comparison sites are not from AvaTrade and we do not repeat them here.
  • Overnight and swap rates. Charged when a position is held past the overnight funding time. Rates are not published publicly.
  • AvaProtect premium. AvaTrade states the premium is calculated from the expected volatility of the position over the contract window and varies from one position to the next. No rate and no example are given. It is available on FX, gold and silver, in one and two day windows plus one, three, six and twelve hour windows on specific pairs, expiring at 10:00 New York time, and it is deducted from free cash when purchased.

AvaTrade also notes that its fees are subject to change periodically.

Withdrawals

No explicit withdrawal fee is published. AvaTrade covers the bank transfer fee on withdrawal requests up to $100, €100 or £100. Above that, the excess is borne by the client, as are any intermediary bank charges.

Minimum deposit

$100, €100, £100 or AUD $100, by credit card, wire transfer or e-wallet. The AUD account is for Australian clients and the GBP account for UK clients. European clients must complete verification before depositing.

How this compares

Capital.com states in its terms that it charges no fee in relation to inactive accounts, no deposit fee and no withdrawal fee, on a €20 minimum. eToro currently lists its inactivity fee as free. AvaTrade's dormancy structure is an outlier among regulated brokers of its size, and it is the main reason its cost pillar scores 4.0.
